Dental Tourism Bali: How to Plan Your Trip Step by Step (2026)

Published 27 March 2026 by BestDentistBali

Planning a dental trip to Bali requires more preparation than a standard holiday, but it is straightforward once you know the steps. This guide walks through everything you need to do, in order, from the first Google search to sitting in the dental chair.

Step 1 (6 to 8 Weeks Before): Research and Get Quotes

Start by identifying 3 to 4 shortlisted clinics using the BestDentistBali directory. Filter by area, check Google ratings, and compare published prices for your treatment.

Contact each shortlisted clinic via WhatsApp and send:

  • A recent OPG (panoramic X-ray), if you have one
  • Photos of your teeth (if the treatment is cosmetic)
  • A description of the treatment you need
  • Your approximate travel dates

Ask each clinic for an itemised written quote. Compare quotes carefully, making sure each includes the same scope of work.

Step 2 (4 to 6 Weeks Before): Visa and Entry Requirements

Australian citizens entering Bali need:

  • Visa on Arrival (VOA): IDR 500,000 (approximately AUD 50). Valid 30 days, extendable once for 30 more days. Can be purchased on arrival or applied for online as an e-VOA at least 48 hours before departure.
  • Bali Tourist Levy: IDR 150,000 (approximately AUD 15) per person, introduced in 2024.
  • All Indonesia Declaration Form: Mandatory from September 2025. Complete online within 3 days before arrival. This replaces the previous e-CD and SATUSEHAT Health Pass.

Step 3 (4 Weeks Before): Flights and Accommodation

Flight costs from Australian cities vary. Perth to Bali averages AUD 346 return, Melbourne averages AUD 449, Sydney is typically higher. February is the cheapest month to fly; January and April the most expensive.

Book accommodation close to your clinic. Most clinics are in the Kuta to Seminyak corridor or in Denpasar. For recovery-focused stays, Nusa Dua or Sanur are excellent quiet options.

Step 4 (2 Weeks Before): Travel Insurance

Standard travel insurance does not cover planned or elective dental procedures. Cover-More covers emergency overseas dental up to AUD 2,000, but not your booked treatment. For planned procedures, look at Medical Travel Shield Australia, which offers specialist policies covering complications from planned overseas dental treatment, including a return trip if the original treatment fails within 12 months.

Step 5 (1 Week Before): What to Bring

  • Recent dental X-rays (digital file or print)
  • List of current medications
  • Your clinic's WhatsApp contact and exact address
  • Cash (IDR) for treatment payment — exchange in Bali for the best rate
  • Any dental records from your Australian dentist

Sample 10-Day Dental Trip Timeline

Days 1 to 2

Arrive, settle in, acclimatise. Initial consultation with your clinic.

Days 3 to 7

Active treatment days. Allow one free day between major appointments for recovery.

Days 8 to 9

Recovery and sightseeing. Final check with clinic if needed.

Days 10 to 11

Buffer days before departure. Do not book major appointments the day before a long-haul flight.

After You Get Home

Tell your Australian dentist about any work done in Bali so they can monitor it and provide continuity of care. Keep all treatment records and receipts from your Bali clinic. If anything feels unusual after returning home, contact your Bali clinic via WhatsApp first — many will advise remotely on minor issues.
